Frequently Asked Questions POS-X Hardware

How do I install my Barcode Scanner?
There are two main interfaces for barcode scanners, USB and Keyboard Wedge. For USB scanners all you need to do is plug them in. Your software should recognize the scanner as an *HID* (Human Interface Device). The scanner will insert characters where your cursor is when it reads a barcode. For Keyboard Wedge scanners you will need to shut down your computer and plug the scanner into the keyboard port (a purple color on most computers) on the back of your computer. Plug your keyboard into the other end of the scanner cable *Y* connection, and turn your computer back on. The scanner will insert characters where your cursor is when it reads a barcode. The scanner will not work if it is plugged into the mouse port or if a PS/2 keyboard is not connected to the scanner.

How do I reset my scanner to defaults settings?
On the first page of the configuration manual are the barcodes for resetting the your scanner to its   defaults. Scan top to bottom ending with save changes (skip enable auto sense on if you are not using   a auto sensing stand)

It scans very inconsistantly, I have to scan multiple times before it reads.
This problem usually occurs because the quality of the barcode is just barley good enough to read.   This can be fixed by printing a larger barcode with less characters or making sure they are being   printed with a laser printer. Upgrading to a higher end scanner would be the next best option.

The scanner is not powering on. There is no red beam when pressing the trigger and I have tried charging the scanner for several hours.

On the bottom of the scanner there is small hole. You will need to take a paper clip or similar sized    object and insert it into the hole. This will turn on/off your scanner and you should see the red beam    when pressing the trigger.

When I scan a barcode it puts a zero in front of the number displayed.

The barcodes you are scanning are most likely UPC-A and are being converted to EAN-13. To disable   this from happening you will need to have the programming manual. On page 32 scan the Enter Group   barcode at the top, the Disable barcode under UPC-A Convert to EAN-13 at the bottom and then Exit at   the top. This will disable this feature and take off the leading zero.

Where can I get drivers for my barcode scanner?
Our barcode scanners do not require drivers. Most computers should recognize the scanners immediately as *human interface devices* and will accept input from them as if they were keyboards.

How do i connect my cash drawer?
The cash drawer is printer driven and must be connected to the back of the receipt with an RJ-11 jack   printer on the DK port.

I need the codes to open my cash drawer from my point-of-sale software.
Most point-of-sale software will have a place for you to enter the appropriate codes to open the cash   drawer. These codes will depend on the printer that you are using. For Pos-X printers the code to enter   is: 27,112,0,25,250

My cash drawer will not open.
First, it must be connected to your receipt printer using the cable coming out of the cash drawer.   Second, your printer must be set up correctly. You can check your printer setup by printing a Windows   *test page* from the printer properties window. Finally, if the connection is correctly setup and the   receipt printer is working, you will need to ensure your settings in your POS software are set up to use   the cash drawer. These settings will differ from software to software so you will need to contact your   software vendor for more information. If the cash drawer is still not opening, contact our support   department for further testing and troubleshooting.

My pole display will not power up.
Check to make sure the power supply is connected to the serial connection on the cable going to the   computer.

Auto Cutter is not working?

My printer is printing gibberish
Start by trying to print a Windows test page by right clicking your printer icon in the printers and faxes   and hitting Print Test Page. If your printer doesnt print, try a different application such as wordpad. If   available try a different port, cable or computer. Also, try rebooting the system and check your printer   connections.

The cutting blade is stuck out and i can not open my paper door
This can happen when paper gets jammed with the cutter. To fix this problem first try turning on and off   your printer several times to reset the cutter. If the top cover is still stuck, you can remove a small cover   on the front of the printer, this will give you access to the cutter. Using a screw driver, you can manually   retract the cutting blade by turning the small plastic screw. The top cover should now be able to open.   You can find a detailed picture of this process in your product manual on page 12.

The printer is not feeding any paper.
Check to make sure the paper is correctly going UNDER the wheels inside the xr-200

What is the purpose of the back office system?
The back office system runs off the same system as the registers and when they are networked together it allows the owner/manager to look at information in a back office so normal business in the store or restaurant will not be interrupted. It uses the same software but the users can be setup to where they have different levels of security, so a regular employee would not be able to view certain levels.

Do the systems come with any sort of backup cd?
Yes, a backup cd comes with the system in case there is corruption.

Once the system is installed how do we go about entering in all of our data, sku's, etc?
You enter it in by scanning the item and then enter a description and price. You can also ask the   software vendor for an Excel format and load it that way if the vendor will provide that...every vendor is   different. They can also help with the setup if need be. We also have crews that can come out for a fee   and load everything in for you. Email for details if interested.
